aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

This had not been what he had been expecting when he had left to take over his father's pack. War? Yes. Of course he expected war - with Tywin constantly seeking to steal his throne and his lands, to murder his people, war he expected. But he had not thought he would have to deal with the kalaks. It had been enough to deal with how little he saw of them while he had been living in Blossom Forest and Caspian and his family had led the pack in Cold Summers. Kalgalath had dealt with them occasionally, when necessary, but rarely did. They kept to their own, stayed within their own business, and did not mettle. He had been sure that by moving to a different land, these minimal interactions would become even fewer and further in between, and Kalgalath would have been glad to never see another again.

But then one had shown up at his boundary.

She had been beaten and bruised, but the oddest thing about her was that there were three silver markings upon her face that glimmered in the light, like metal, and that the tips of her claws - what he could see anyway as they peeked out from beneath her ebony fur - glimmered with a sheen as well. Her story was almost too remarkable to believe - that the kalaks of Faraway had discovered a new plant that boasted an organism that worked synergistically with their DNA - it marked them based on both who they were on society and what their parentage was like. The organism had to be sentient, though, and eerily so, for the marks would change if one or the other parent's individual symbol changed. It had intrigued Kalgalath to no end. Perhaps that was why Kalgalath had been blinded to the events that would soon follow.

Her name had been Yayoi Miyako and she had told them about the changes within the kalak pack that she hailed from. She had been a slave since birth and was used as the beating bag for the warriors in addition to being their escort when they were lonely. Within the pack, Yayoi had no rights, no free will, and was not allowed to make any choices of her own. Since she had been a slave, she had seen and heard much without being noticed, and told Kalgalath and Sebring about the discovery of the plant, about the application process, and the transformation. With some further probing, she had revealed so much more. Kalgalath had mentioned the previous rulers of Cold Summers, and though Yayoi had never heard of Cold Summers, she had recognized the name of the royalty - Caspian, Shae, and Akuji. Yayoi, apparently, was from the pack previously led by Shae's and Akuji's father. Kalgalath had of course asked how she could have escaped, and Yayoi said that she had ran in the middle of a raid from a different clan. Kalgalath had had no reason not to trust her...and the days passed on into weeks, and then into months. Winter had turned into spring and it had been easy to see the growth of Yayoi's abdomen. Yayoi had grown close to the ruling pair... and then one day a wolf had come for Sebring, asking for her help. Sebring had been trained by Hellene back in Aurora Borealis, and the wolf had said that Yayoi needed help with her whelping.

Only Sebring had never returned.

As it turned out, Yayoi was a recruiter. The bruises were planned, as was the pregnancy, all for believability. Kalgalath and Sebring had fallen for it, and as a consequence, Sebring had been kidnapped. Kalgalath had tracked them, but he quickly found out that he was one against many. Even with the fullness of his pack, they were outnumbered simply because the kalaks used their females as breeding stock and produced more numbers than Kalgalath's pack could ever do morally. And so he had waited and watched for a chance to find Sebring, to rescue her. He had even gone as far as to kidnap a kalak from the Faraway pack to get more information - and that had been when he had been told about the integration program. The kalaks were kidnapping nonkalaks, brainwashing them, and were going to use them to infiltrate Blossom Forest. It was a shocker... and something that he could not stand for. Not just because he used to live in Blossom Forest, not just because his sons were there, not just because his mate was being used and abuse... but because it was quite simply wrong.

And that brought him to here and now, standing as a stranger on the outside of his old pack, calling for any who might know him. They needed to be made aware of what was to come... and he needed help finding Sebring.
