Sinsof the father

His head was spinning. These islands had gone to shit! His poor birth home had become soft like his mother. But, perhaps it was the stallions before these mares that had changed everything. Maybe they had abandoned their herds too many times and the females finally got tired of it and took control. Then there was Mariael’s situation. She explained to him that her sire had left the Bay to her. Warsaw couldn’t erase the sinking feeling that if he would have stayed the Bay’s King his would have never happened. His kin, his sons, would be the ruler now if not still himself.

Warsaw knew something had to be wrong with her father. Not only just giving the herd to her as a female, but at such a tender age. Of course he had started his rule in just the next year, but that was by choice. He had challenged and won the Inlet, but he had wanted the Bay. The current owner of the Bay soon left it in Warsaw’s care in which he happily moved in. He spent most of his rule there, but it had all been short lived. He abandoned the mares he had gathered (most of them against their will) and left the child he had created with them. He should have stayed, but he was bored with these islands. Maybe that was why they were now ruled by mares. This was his calling home.

Then she said there were others. More of them ruled the other islands in the distance. “There are others?” He almost spat, but kept it to himself somehow. He scanned the land behind her for a few minutes while silence passed by them. It wasn’t until he felt her gaze burning of his face that he locked eyes with her again. She asked for his…allegiance? Honestly, he hadn’t thought the question would come so soon. His eyes ran back and forth as he processed this request. He began muttering his short life story of his island experience. She had her right to her birth home, but he had his and the stallion’s right was always ahead of a mare’s. ”I was born on these islands, where I can’t recall, but I think it was one of the gathering places. When I turned three I challenged and won the Inlet, but then the Bay was given to me as a gift. I took the Bay and ruled it for a few months before my departure from the islands. It’s been six years since I’ve lived here, but something called me back here.”

His last words drifted off until his eyes found their way back to Mariael. Dark mochas locked back onto hers and he spoke. “I…I need some time to think.” He says flatly. He needed time to think of what he would do next, but he didn’t want her to know that. He wanted her to think he just needed time to process this new information of mares leading stallions. Though his mind was made up that staying under a mare was not okay, he still wondered if he should agree for the time being. If he let her have her power and get full of herself the glory of him knocking her down would be so much sweeter. He would have to follow some silly rules, but it was all for a good cause. So, for now he would buy time. He just wanted to feel his freedom a bit longer.
