Ain't life just awful strange

a new world hangs outside the window
beautiful and strange
it must be I've fallen awake
I must be

Wasp trudged with hardy steps through the shallow waters, her wide hooves and thick legs hardly leaving behind delicate prints in the otherwise undisturbed waters as she lazily perused around. The dark brown hair under her barrel and up her legs to her shoulders were damp from the subsequent splashes. But she didn't mind the coolness the water brought against her skin. The older the filly got, the more independent she wanted to be. As such, she hadn't been spending as much time with her mother lately, if she could help it. Despite this, she was enjoying Macabre's company today, especially as their conversation turned to her mother's recent scuffle with a Lagoon stallion.

The whole notion of the Lagoon and the Peak rivalry was not lost on Wasp. She was fascinated by it, and especially their new Prime Minister, Oswin's drive to go after the stallions there head first. She was also particularly interested in the Peak's new captive, a sly and quick-witted stallion who seemed nice enough, but whom Macabre forbade her from spending any unsupervised time with. Wasp didn't understand why her mother was so strict and so worried all the time, especially lately when it came to the Lagoon. Macabre did, in fact, win in battle against Cullen. Shouldn't she be celebrating? Or at least reveling in feeling superior? Oswin sure seemed to relish in her victories in battle, and she was in far more of them than her own mother was. "What happens if he comes back?" Wasp asks curiously as she circled back in the water to stand closer to her mother.

Macabre, was now in the short grass at the bank of the pool, and stood quietly for a minute to carefully weigh her answer to her daughter's question. "Hopefully he won't be back." She said curtly, with the flick of her tail, even if she knew better than to think that. "But if he does, we'll be ready." Wasp had more questions, but her attention was diverted by the sound of another. She whipped her head to one side as the voice of a stranger flitted in over the sound of the raging waterfalls. Wasp leaped in place in surprise, all four legs shooting her body airborne, if only briefly, as she did an about-face to look squarely at the stranger who spoke to them. Macabre watched with interest from her position on land, but didn't move to stand in defense of her daughter. They were, after all, in common grounds and the mare seemed to show no signs of aggression. So the petite chestnut mare merely nickered welcomely to her and offered her a weak smile.

Wasp's amber eyes flicked to her mother for guidance before wading over closer to the stranger, taking slow but methodical steps in the water to get to her. "Yes, we're exploring." Wasp answered quickly, two dark ear lobes flicked forward at attention. As she drew closer to the mare, she could see the swelling at her chest, which protruded and drooped slightly from her frame. "That looks like it hurts." Wasp blurt out in a childish, blunt manner. "I bet the cool water in here would make it feel better." She offered though, kindly.

Her daughter's observation gave Macabre pause. The small mare felt her heart beat quicken and her flight instincts begin to tingle internally. She moved forward then, to stand more in line with her daughter, still not breaching the water line, to get a better view of this mare and the injury Wasp saw up close. "Hello." She said softly as she approached. "I'm Macabre and this my daughter, Wasp. Is this your first time to the Falls?"
