Beetle, please pass on my regards to Rick and give him my best wishes for the future. I am sure he will enjoy the Reserves as much as I did. I remember one night at Rockhampton when during the startup No 2 engine shot a few sparks out of the tail pipe, I called the problem and the engine was shutdown an inspection by the Eng, name forgotten, revealed that the Pineapple valve had failed and a piece of it had actually gone into the 14 stage. Eng Change and a night out in Rocky, woohoo. Next day the rescue arrived with a boggie L/M, all of 200hrs local in his log book, Rick Smith, After helping him unload the Eng change Kit, no easy feat in the field without bears to do it for you, I gave him some pointers on how to reload the kit using straps etc. to get up the ramp or better still knock one of Qantas's tow motors and push the gear up. We left in the rescue aircraft and Rick arrived home a couple of days later after some R and R in Rocky. Fond memories Rick. Hope to see you at the reunion in October. Replies:
