This is no ordinary love

As she spoke, Vita Nova's pale blue eyes were transfixed on Nephilim's one remaining, searching his expression for some kind of clarity. She was confused. A part of her understood his misguided attempt to help his family by staying away. But her heart ached in her chest, it burned even, for the abandonment his children must carry with them every day, even if they thought he was dead. That kind of grief just never leaves you. Nephilim had hardly opened up to Nova about his tumultuous relationship with his own mother, but she knew enough to know he too knew what abandonment felt like. So why do all this?

After the steely grey mare had her say, she dropped her dished head to the ground. Her lips parted to mull over some haphazard blades of grass, but she never actually chewed or swallowed any. She was merely buying herself time, and attempting to hide the shock and fear she knew was plastered across her face. Vita Nova honestly didn't know what had overcome her. She didn't regret offering her help, nor extending this idea of a future where the two of them could be together again. But the idea didn't fill her insides with joy and butterflies, either. Was she too jaded these days to fall in love with the fantasy all over again? So much time had passed. They both weren't the same. Vita Nova had Nyah. The ordeal with Koray had certainly changed her. What had these years of anguish and solidarity done to him? What if this didn't work? She was worried. Her heart was racing so fast that she could barely make out Nephilim's short "okay" when he agreed.

But this is what Oswin wanted right? What his children wanted? "Okay?"

She repeated, and lifted her head from the grass. Her head still hung low, hovering between her knees with her pale blue eyed gaze looking up to meet his own. "Really, okay?" She asks again, her body completely still, as if frozen by her disbelief.

The smallest of smiles begins to tug at the corners of her lips and it continues to spread. "You have to promise me." She said softly as she swayed over to him again, pressing the long side of her face softly into his chest and closing her eyes. "That if you come back you can never leave us all again."
