GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
Live through this lie

Was I left behind?
Tell me, tell me I survived.

I tried not to notice the way she stood, how her legs moved to accommodate bloat and new weight. I tried not to study how vibrant her cream-colored coat was, despite the unforgiving winter season. Sanibel was indeed pregnant, there was no denying that. And as a mare carrying my foal, she was meant to stay here in the Prairie under my keep. I bob my head once as the tension between us continues to build, trying to come up with a way to slice through it, but failing. I shift my weight back and forth over my four legs, the nervous energy keeping me from standing still for too long. I feign another smile at her happiness, when she shares that she indeed, wanted to be mother. There is a part of me that warms at the thought of this, that perhaps this is a healthy and joyful next chapter, and not quite as dreadful as my grief-ridden mind wants me to believe.

When Sanibel shares that she followed me here, I am struck her words and my own ineptitude, spawned from weeks of lackadaisical and distracted patrolling. It is embarrassing to know that she followed me here, and I had no idea. "Oh," I manage to say gruffly, my gaze once again peering away from her, and out across the rolling plains. "Well, I'm glad you're here now." I take a step toward her and nicker warmly, trying to emphasize that I stood behind the words I'd said, even if my body language or the excruciating awkwardness of this initial interaction said otherwise. "Have you been to Luthien before?" I ask curiously, with the flick of my red tail. "Luckily for us, it is an excellent place to raise a family." I say quietly, but extend my warm nose to her shoulder, pressing lightly upon her as I breathe in her familiar scent.

"Can I show you around?" I ask after retreating, but still maintaining a close proximity to her. It's unclear in this moment if Sanibel is here soley for her foal, and her desire to have one, or if she is also interested in creating a life with me, too. I don't need an answer from her, not today nor ever, if she doesn't have one. But the panic I felt when she first arrived is dissipating. The familiar, but dormant need to take care of her is beginning to bubble through. I smile sweetly at her now, enjoying a moment of slience between us, and quickly revisit the details of the night we'd met the first time.
