Their trek from the Crossing Isle to Luthien was a quiet one. Perhaps the silence stemmed from the unpredictable conditions that lay ahead of them. Despite being known as an island with mild temperatures and seasons, winter was the worst time to cross the choppy seas. The tides changed quickly and so did the churning power of the currents. All it took was a matter of seconds for the sea to turn on them, and it could just as quickly swallow them hole. Despite this, the pair emerged into its black depths, only the burning stars overhead guiding them through the night. And they kicked out against the water until the hazy mass of Luthien appeared in the distance.
Vita Nova was silently grateful to see her home again, too, as they pulled their dripping wet bodies from the surf. She shook the remaining seawater from pelt quickly, feeling the chill of the brisk night air. All along their swim, the grey stallion they had met back in the commons wasn't far from her mind. He was old fashioned and peculiar in nature, but Nova was curious. She couldn't stop thinking about the mysterious Warsaw. But then Petal spoke, for the first time since they'd left the Crossing, and the grey mare's blue-eyed gaze turned to focus on her friend. Petal shone with the same vibrancy under the stars as when Nova first met her, even in the dead of night, with her damp cream-colored coat.
Nova flicked a sopping wet tail, it landing on the side of her hind end with a dull "thwack" as she listened to her friend's concerns. She grit her teeth as she considered her words. Shamwari had never been the type to hold anyone in the Prairie against their will. Nova was sure that Petal knew this. But what Nova had failed to tell Petal was the death her brother had recently endured, and the sort of fog it left him living in, in its wake. The steely mare exhaled deeply as she considered this, and offered Petal a sympathetic look. "Shamwari would never expect you to stay if you didn't want to." She confirmed with a sheepish smile. "I'm sure he'll just be happy to see a familiar face."
Nova took a few steps forward now, leaving the shoreline behind and heading into the tall grasses and rolling hills of the Prairie. The terrain was cold and quiet, which was unsurprising to Nova. "There is something you should probably know though." Nova said uneasily, watching Petal out of the corner of her eye as they strolled. "Brienne died giving birth recently. As you can imagine, it's been a very difficult time for Shamwari and Jabari. They are the only ones left of the herd, as far as I know." Nova felt particularly uncomfortable being the bearer of bad news. But Petal had a right to know what she was getting into. "Don't feel pressured to do anything you don't want to." She rambled on nervously. "But like I said, I think it would cheer him up just to see you again."
