Kempenfelt Bay has been opening up over the past 24 hours, and Barrie is now ice free as of mid-day today.

Yesterday, there was a Long-tailed Duck in Barrie, in the open water at the very west end of the bay.

This morning, there was an adult Bald Eagle on the ice, and there were numerous Common Loons along the perimeter of the bay. A Caspian Tern was feeding along the shore.

At Bear Creek Wetland this morning, a Sora was singing near the northern terminus of Elizabeth Street. Over the open water there, I saw 5 Rough-winged Swallows. West of Ferndale, a Northern Waterthrush was singing.
