GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
Live through this lie

Was I left behind?
Tell me, tell me I survived.

I watch as Vita Nova shifts her weight back and forth over her front and hind legs, clearly unsure what to do with herself and her nervous energy. This reunion between Petal and I is clearly quite personal, and my sister seems to struggle to stand awkwardly on the fringes of it. I watch as she catches Petal's gaze and gives her another reassuring bob of her head before looking out across the darkness over the Prairie. "Why don't I let you two catch up." She interjects quickly before either Petal or I offer too much to say. "I'll go find the boys." She says casually to me as she passes, her dark nostrils flaring as she searches the land for the scents of my sons. I nicker warmly to her as she fades from view. Then my gaze returns to Petal, and the sides of my barrel rise and fall as I take in a deep breath.

"It's good to see you." I confess, a small simper of a smile washing over my whiskered lips. My words are authentic. After these many months, it is good to see her now, healthy and strong, and back in the Prairie. I listen eagerly as she explains that she's returned to the islands to see me. Two copper-colored ear lobes flick forward in brief surprise. My thick, knotted tail sweeps over my haunches as I weigh her words. "You know you're always welcome here." I say softly, but allow my gaze to drift off into the distance for a moment. "I'm afraid the Prairie is not as lively these days as you may have remembered." I add, allowing another deep sigh to pass through my flared nostrils. Knowing my sister, I am certain Vita Nova has already shared with Petal what has happened here recently. "It's just me and my sons."

This last part sounds more melancholy than I anticipated. I hope she doesn't think I'm here, wildly on edge, feeling sorry for myself. I am trying. Every day brings hope of a new beginning. Every day, the ache of losing Brienne dulls just a little. But the Prairie remains quiet and desolate. We're starting all over.

"Why don't you tell me about your travels."
