War is a game that is played with a smile

It was uncomfortable standing in one place for so long, but it never used to be this hard. He found himself adjusting every couple minutes now, shifting his weight and streching his legs. He tried to be as discreet as possible, but if anyone understood he would hope the beautiful palomino infront of him would. He wasn't sure how old she was, but he at least knew she was no spring chciken. So far she didn't mention his behavior and he wondered if that was because she understood. A younger horse might think him anxious or bored which was not true.

Her words brought his attention off his aching limbs and down a road he had traveled so long ago. He loved the valley and he had imagined a life full of children there. If Kerr wouldn't have intervened he might not be worring about becoming a father now. He couldn't die before he experienced the joy of seeing yourself through young eyes. It was the mare's next words that made him wonder why she was even here. Something about these islands seemes to bother her, but maybe it was just the years of living here in which he did not have that pleasure.

"I had no choice." He begun, having to take a few minutes to collect himself before continuing. "Disease spread over my birth home and it was either stay and die or leave and stay alive. I was young then, but I was smart enough to move my small herd of two out of the valley." Of course it had already been too late for one and the other was so distrout she fled in another direction. He never saw her again and never knew if she survied or not, but at least he knew the survival of his own family. Most of them anyway.

"And why have you stayed here?" His question blurted out before he really thought about the consequences it could bring upon him. The mare had proved she could be fiesty from the start and here he was speaking his mind openly. It wasn't long until she said she lives on Luthien now in the Forest. He had never been there or at least he never remembered going there in his short time on the islands. Chocolate eyes watch as she begins to move and his muscles ache to do the same. He smiles and nods as she asks if he would join. Legs cracked with the sudden movement as he was a bit too excited to be walking, but his strides worked to match hers as they made their way down the sandy slope.

"I lived on these islands before, Atlantis to be exact, but I never stayed long." He was unsure of what to do in the silence so he began explaining more about himself. Maybe Evaline would become a friend in the near future. "I'm not even sure why I have returned, but maybe it is because some of my family is here and they are all I have left." Eyes glued to the grains of sand under his hooves as they walked. Miles of the same thing made up Salem. These sands were where he would spend the last of his days.
