Thanks for the reply. I think it's easy to assume that with a male-female ratio of about 1:1 that most songbirds are paired.
The study shows that there are unpaired males moving around. Male birds are more obvious than females due to brighter colours,singing, perching behaviour etc. I wonder if there are unpaired females wandering during breeding season. I suspect there are a lot fewer of them.
