War is a game played with a smile

Like Evaline, he was careful how he walked. The dunes could easily shift under their weight and cause him to fall. That last thing he wanted was to embarrass himself. He briefly thought of his family, how he missed them, and how they couldn't visit for awhile. His sisters were with child, probably foals by now, and they could not take their young across the sea. He would have to wait a few months when they learned to swim. He wonders if this was the same for Evaline and that is why she stayed talking with him. The lonely had a way of finding each other.

The regret for his question was already there, but it grew with her response. He almost froze for a second when she snapped a question back to clarify what he was talking about and he responded in a low whisper, "The islands...". He wasn't sure if he wanted her to hear the answer, but she kept walking and so did he. Eventually, she answered and gave one similar to his own. Children...

They reached the end of their journey and he wondered just how long she would stay here. He hoped a little longer, but he was never one to force the issue. Evaline goes to relax under a palm, but his dry mouth brought him to the water. In slow movements, his neck lowered his head to the refreshing liquid where he sipped. He couldn't stop drinking and he didn't want to because it felt so good. It wasn't until Evaline moved towards the water that his head raised back up.

He watched as she waded in, but was surprised when she urged him to come join her. He didn't want to question it much and quickly followed suit, placing a single hoof into the cool liquid to get used to the temperature change. Eventually, his whole body was in and he swam up next to her. She seemed comfortable and a new question soon arose from her lips. He smiled in response as he watched the ripples in the water from their bodies. "My mother Hikea used to live here with her mate Debonaire on the shore of Atlantis. They had my youngest siblings, Cherish and Conquistador. I never got to meet Conquistador because I left the islands so I'm not sure where he is now, but my mother and her mate left as well. She passed away years ago as I'm sure Debonaire has now too."

His mother was a great mare and he would never forget her and never stop telling stories about her. His father was a different story he conveniently left out. "My family still left on these islands include my two half-sisters, Sojourner, and Sanibel, Cherish, and their children. I'm sure the sons of Cherish and Sojourner have been making trouble. They usually do. Their names are Warsaw and Cullen, but I don't speak with them or involve myself in their antics." He hated Warsaw and Cullen and felt sorry for whoever crossed paths with them. He hoped Evaline hasn't had any trouble, but the islands were only so big.
