Find Mushrooms Fascinating?
Join Us For One or Both Forays!
Have you always wondered what those mushrooms growing under your pine trees are? Are you curious to know about the relationships between mushrooms and trees? Do you wonder why we have mushrooms at all? If you want these and all your other questions about mushrooms answered, join renowned naturalist Bob Bowles and learn how mushrooms grow, where they grow, how to identify them, their relationship with trees and the soil, and what species are edible. Cost: $15. Pre-registration required, spaces are limited to ensure a high quality experience for all participants. Register at www.dslsn.org on the Events page.
Please bring a basket and wax paper for collecting mushrooms, as well as (if you wish) a snack/drink, mushroom identification guide(s) and any fresh mushrooms from your own property that you wish to have identified.
Although these events are geared toward beginners in mushroom identification, even those more experienced are bound to pick up some new information. Bob Bowles has spent many years studying the fungi (as well as the other flora and fauna) of Simcoe County. He is very knowledgeable and his enthusiasm for the natural world in contagious. Don’t be surprised if in the middle of discussing mushrooms, he pauses to identify a butterfly or dragonfly that flits past. An experience not to be missed!
