War is a game played with a smile

The water was a nice contrast to the warm sun which reflected brightly against the water's surface. This caused a soft glow on each ripple he made when he limbs moved to readjust. Evaline had a good idea by moving their conversation here. Not only was the temperature change favorable, but his joints ached less. Mention of his sister Sanibel caught his attention. Seems his little sister had settled down when they split up. He wondered if the same could be said for Sojourner, but if not he knew she would be fine. Sojourner had always been the stronger of his sisters so he worried about less than the rest. Even though it was not his happiness, he smiles knowing Sanibel was safe in the protection of Evaline's family.

His weight shifted as he dug each sinking hoof out of the mush underneath and placed them in a new position. Next, Evaline spoke of her child and he couldn't help, but feel jealousy bubble up. It got worse as she mentions her new grandchild and he only wonders if he will live long enough to meet his own one day. Despite his feelings, he did take note of the role of her eyes as she spoke of Vita Nova. He imagines if she holds the same spunk Evaline seemed to have that would cause some squabbles between mother and daughter. He listened on as she spoke on her son, another daughter, and then finishes with slight mentions of loved ones she has outlived. Cap wonders just how much time he has wasted be foolish and picky in choosing a mate.

He remains quiet for a moment to ensure she was finished telling her story. He was always interested in what made others tick and it helped when they were as attractive as Evaline. His throat cleared at his own thoughts and his body adjusted again. Eyes darted away, but Evaline's feminine voice was again asking him a new question. She asks what he will do in the Dunes and he imagines a simple, boring future, but one of great promise for himself. As he begins to speak his eyes trail the vast sands in the distance. "I have led many different herds, but no mare has ever sparked a romantic relationship for me. I returned here to attempt to find my special someone so that I could start a family as I have no children. If not, well, I hope I can at least provide companionship to someone in need." His eyes drop to the water where he watches the sun's reflection. He thinks of his old bones fighting off an intruder and he wonders just how that would be possible. That must be why no mares have come to stay. Eventually, he would have to give in and retire his leadership role as well as his dream to fall in love.

"There is also my dying religion I would enjoy passing along to another. Either just as a story to tell or someone actually interesting in practicing." He had never thought on it much before, but Evaline made him realize just how old his beliefs were. Sanibel and Sojourner knew of his religion, but they were not from the valley and instead were brought up in the religion of their sire.
