I asked George what to look for when trying to find Shining Aster amongst all the white flowered asters at the Bracebridge Ponds. He suggested I share his reply here:

�Calico, Lanceolate and Arrow-leaved, also Flat-topped White Asters are probably all at the lagoons and are white. Shining aka Glossy-leaved Aster until 1999 was considered part of Purple-stemmed Aster which is abundant in Muskoka. Shining in Muskoka is distinguished from P-s by blue-tinged white flowers forming large showy colonies. Purple-stemmed flowers are blue and plants are scattered not colonial. Jim Goltz has only seen Shining at Walker�s Pt and Beausoleil Island. But it should occur elsewhere.�
