American Bittern at Upjohn

I had all but given up getting my American Bittern this year, but was pleasantly surprised to hear one calling last night. I was at the Upjohn Nature Reserve near Bracebridge and was walking the wetland trail when I heard the distinctive onk-a-chonk call. Unfortunately, couldn't get eyes on the bird, but it's such a gorgeous call.

For those of you who haven't been to Upjohn, it might be a worthwhile place to check for shorebirds. The main wetland's beaver dam is out, so there's a lot of mudflats there now. I've had Killdeer, Solitarys, and Spotted there in the past.

The nature reserve is 1055 Nichols Rd and should be pretty easy to find on Google Maps. The road is only summer maintained and the main trail starts at an old stone house along the road.
