It is built on the same site (with good parking ) The old Veterans MeMemorial & Auditorium was used by many group and once many years ago tHE MARINE BAND free-- and annually Vaudavillities - an amature show put on by local talent - sometime good and occasionally passable. For a few years
Worthing Hills where I live we also put on an amature show annually (some good some bad) but it seems middle America has departed the yen for showcasing. BUT, this memorial is a surprise to me, I get the Columbus Dispatch and read it in the morning. Nothing of it was on locsl TV. so I had to look it up on the internet. So, someone figured out Columbus needed some way to attract tourists like our famous Zoo does, but the memorial is located smack near downtown so maybe downtown night life will perk up which has died in the past decade. As for the design maybe Glenn had one too many. THere is a dubious work of "art" called "brushstroke" that sits inside our John Glen International Airport which was pushed on us by onetime Mayor BUCK Reinhart. )
