John,
I don't think that many folks (including myself) would go along with the idea of re-writing the 2nd Amendment so as to ban all gun ownership.
Instead, why not do something less extreme, such as banning the sale of all semi-automatic weapons. (See the below string entitled "Why Not Ban the AR-15?")
