Re(2): 2018 CMC Birthday Message

Wow!
what a story Ed. I was a senior at Porter Military Academy in Charleston, S.C. and Cadet Hart was in my squad. His father was General Hart and I think the top officer at Paris Island. Prior to graduation in June of 1947 we were invited to spend the day at Paris Island and it was an eye opener. we saw how the recruits were treated, exactly as you descried, and as a result no one joined the Corps while several of us headed for the Army and basic training at Fort Jackson. I rushed in to secure the GI bill benefits which expired in July. The 13 months earned and used at the Citadel in Charleston expired in June of 1950 and good old USNA began in July. My first contact with Marines was on the rifle range during Plebe summer. They weren't as pushy as those you mentioned although not friendly for sure!
