Subsidy for electric cars

President Trump threatened to cut off the $7,500 tax subsidy for new electric cars at GM in the wake of their plant closing announcements. I do not believe he can do so for one company while allowing it for others. I do believe the government should cut out the subsidy for all electric cars assembled outside our country. Why should we subsidize technology in China, Japan or Korea? Cutting it off in this way would have a sobering effect on all planing new plants in China like Tesla is doing.
