Her eyes were wide with fright and she continued to pull on her paw trapped in the rocks but at this point she had all but accepted she was going to die. And yet all she could think about was how sad her mother and father would be. She knew Malleah and Exodus loved her greatly and it would break their hearts to find her mutilated body. She could only feel that she had let them down by dying so easily. She closed her eyes, waiting for that paw to hit and surely force the last breath from her lungs. She waited and waited...but it didn't come. She heard someone else growling and with her eyes still forced closed, she gasped in terror, figuring another bear had come to fight over her remains or something so terrifying as that. This had to be her end, right? The bear in front of her sounded furious, whatever it was, but when that hit still failed to come, she finally forced her eyes open, gasping again in shock of the show in front of her.
There was an older male wolf circling the bear, nipping at his legs and barking to draw his attention. The bear turned with the wolf, angrily batting at him with his front paws and roaring, hoping to make the wolf run, but the wolf wasn't backing down. Lucia's eyes widened in awe. Was this male trying to fight the bear or was it just so she could get away? She glanced again at her trapped paw and went back to pulling on it, trying to reach a front paw over to dig at the rocks around it, anything pry it free. Finally, after some maneuvering, she got her very sore paw out of the rocks. She went to put weight on it but winced. It didn't feel broke but it definitely was hurt. Sighing, she held it up and turned back to the wolf and bear. It was almost fascinating, watching this stare down, but she flinched every time the bear charged at the wolf, snapping its massive jaws as if to eat him.
Finally she couldn't take it anymore so she picked up a rock in her mouth and threw her body sideways, letting the rock fly and flinching as it hit the bear in the side of the head. The bear roared in fury, pawing at his own head in pain before turning his angry eyes on her. She gasped, instantly aware of her three legged status. She just hated to see the wolf getting attacked by something so big and vicious. She wasn't any better off, however. Yelping more in fright than anything, she turned and took off across the rocks, a lot less graceful on three legs than on four. She looked back to see if the bear was chasing, kicking both her back paws out to send some more rocks flying out behind her just in case.
