Tax Law Changes Lead to Shock, Surprise

The above words headlined an article in the business section of today's local paper.

Here is an excerpt from the article:
"...Bill Rigler almost fell off his chair when he found out that his federal tax refund for 2018 was only $100; he received about $6,000 the year before.
There were no changes to his income, mortgage interest, student loans and charitable contributions, said Rigler, vice president of MAPRagency in Boulder.
Rigler in previous years had taken itemized deductions. But not this year, he said, 'thanks to Trump tax reform.'...."


[It sounds like this guy should have used itemized deductions again this year. One would have thought that he would have figured out in advance what his refund would be, using one or the other].
