Re(7): What do y'all think of THIS pattern?

Skiena was a statistics professor doing a project with his students

That's one way to look at it. Another might be to imagine yourself, BRNE, back in time, with a competing system and desire to write a book and be regarded as THE jai-alai analysis expert.

You probably wouldn't have:

A - a tenured position with the freedom to use your 'work' time on jai-alai

B - free access to expensive computer time

C - bright, eager-to-please grad students able to write code that you couldn't

All I'm saying is that his position with the students wasn't necessarily a minus.

I don't think this was his life's work.

Yes, I think about that all the time wrt to his book. He has many accomplishments all over the place.

What I'm critiquing is his system, not him. I am only interested in puzzling over the correctness of the ideas that are presented. Not that different from how one might analyze a chess position.

That goes double for ideas of my own. Objectivity is the goal.

Through an amazing coincidence, I noticed that the actor, Henry Silva, took time to lay out Step 1 of the process in a simple, easy to understand way.

(Mostly just the first 15 seconds or so)

How to evaluate jai-alai ideas
