Ed, Bob & All: In January 1948 I joined the Marine Reserve, in the old 5th Infantry Battalion, in Washington, DC. Commanded by LTC J. C. Fondahl, a regular police captain. On a 2-year reserve enlistment, had I not received an appointment to USNA, I would have shipped over in Jan 1950, thus when the Korean War broke in June, I was at sea on the Mighty Mo, down in the Caribbean. I returned on leave, in time to see my old battalion marching off to Korea, and I surely would have been with them, but for the turn of fate. Replies:
