In the seventies we were replacing the back up emergency batteries at Minuteman sites with lithium batteries to extend the time the site stayed on alert with the failure of commercial power. One of those large lithium batteries exploded in the depot maintenance facility killing a technician. I do not recall exactly what caused the accident but it was ultimately solved to allow the program to continue. Replies:
