This is no ordinary love

She'd watched as Warsaw slipped away in the night, his grey sheen illuminated by the moon, hours before the sun would rise. His departure had startled her awake - Vita Nova had come to find comfort in the late nights they'd spent together. So it was unlike him to leave so suddenly. Even in the warmer weather, the crisp, Tinuvel air was quick to fill the warm void where Warsaw's body had been, so close to her own. It did little to help her drift back to sleep.

Hours passed and the sun did rise. Vita Nova tried not to fret about what she'd witnessed, and mingled with the rest of the herd, per usual. She grazed not far from where Neon stood, a mare she'd met only briefly, but whom seemed nice enough. Her nearly-grown filly, Tavas, too, grazed among them. It was in these quiet moments where Vita Nova could gauge what Warsaw had been working on so diligently - the herd's numbers were growing.

When the stallion's call broke through the quiet morning, causing a trio of frazzled ospreys to take flight from the pine trees nearby, Nova felt a chill run down the length of her spine. At first she was relieved to hear her King's baritone voice, and know that he had returned. But a call like that meant there was something to report - and not just privately to her, as his lead mare. She swallowed what left of the grass and brush in her mouth, and trotted off in the direction the call had come.

Tavas followed obediently. And soon the land opened up to reveal Warsaw himself, standing proudly, if not with some fatigue, as he waited for them to gather. Nova offered him a stony glare, her brilliant blue eyes noting the nicks along his body. Liland? She wondered, the pesky neighbor Warsaw had mentioned once or twice. Vita Nova nickered to him and hoped for good news. Instead of coming to stand near Neon and the rest of the mares, she rounded the stallion and edged up close to him, standing shoulder to shoulder, so that she too faced the rest of the mares. Nova lifted her dished face high over her withers as she stared down at the rest of them, a strange feeling of pride and power lifting her up. Perhaps she could get used to this. She remained silent then, and waited for Warsaw to take command of the meeting he'd called.
