Re(5): DVA Specialist Medical Referral.

My understanding is that the 12 visit limit for one referral, commenced on 1 July. The idea is, that after your 12 visits, if your allied health provider, (physio, chiro, exercise therapist etc), feel that you need further treatment, you will need to present to your GP, for them to assess the effectiveness of your treatment and, if considered necessary, will issue you with a referral for a further 12 visits.

The main reason for this change is the over servicing by allied health providers. For example, there was one exercise therapist in my area, who billed DVA for visits that did not happen. Caught and booted.

Realistically, this is not much of an impost to the patient, if it ensures that allied health treatment is genuine, and providers are not getting rich at the expense of DVA and eventually, those who need the treatment.
