Never let me go

Sanibel notes the mare's mannerism and how she holds herself. She believes this mare to be full of herself and wishes someone to come along and knock her down to size. Sojourner would have been the perfect candidate and she would have loved it too. Why couldn't Sanibel bring herself to be that way in her place? Then she remembers how So used to tell her to never change who she was for anyone. She would tell her sister how much she loved the gentle mare she was.

That wasn't getting her anywhere when it came to the younger, entitled mares, and the aggressive stallions like Rougaru. Honestly, she was too old to be dealing with all this drama. It has been Sanibel's one and the only plan since returning to the islands was that she would have a child and live her last years raising that child. She had not planned to fall in love. Lissa answers her question. She wishes to roll her eyes, but she holds herself back.

It would make sense Rougaru's herd was new. That was why he hasn't bothered Shamwari until now. She takes a quick glance around Paradise thinking this was the world moving on without her. Her values and her generation was mostly gone now. This was the next generation barging in to take over. This generation was not for her. She was too old to tango with a mare who only had sights for power.

"Honestly I'm too old to be thinking of being a lead mare." Her focus turns back on the black mare. "My real stallion doesn't have a lead mare either, but I am uninterested in such a position." The mare standing before her wasn't a new spring filly herself, but she still had plenty of years ahead. Honestly, she looked about the right age a lead mare should be. Sanibel, on the other hand, was on the opposite end. Her childbearing years were up (despite her current pregnancy) and her knowledge could no longer keep up with her body. Just maybe the simple fact of announcing Shamwari had no lead would interest her. It was doubtful, but a possibility.
