We found each other in the dark

Through the black starless water,
And the cold lonely air. On the rock restless seas.

The roan mare stood coolly as the young one approached. Tavas cocked her head to one side and blinked her amber eyes quickly. She resisted the urge to show her teeth and chew, a childish antic that she felt was beneath her these days, even if instinct still told her to do it. Instead, she flicked her thick, blonde tail almost violently over her rump, mimicking what she'd seen her mother do when greeting another horse.

The strange spoke evenly and calmly, and Tavas got the sense right away that this mare wasn't dangerous. Or at least, she wasn't a danger to her. She was quick to answer her question and Tavas bobbed her head quickly in understanding, but still rolled her eyes afterward. Warsaw? Boring. The filly turned her head to look back into the brush and the trees of the Inlet behind them... It felt like the grey stallion was always lurking close by. Or at least he was when Tavas was around her mother. "Oh." She said curtly, breathing in the mare's damp scent now that she was close enough.

If Tavas had eyebrows, they would have furrowed together now, as if a light bulb had been turned on inside her head. There was something that about that scent that felt so familiar. Her yellow ears flick forward and back a few times as she tries to piece together her thoughts and turn them into words. "Are you from Luthien?" Tavas finally asks, tilting her head in the other direction then. "I was born there." She rambled.

But before the filly could explain any further, the sounds of a large mass traveling against the pebbled rocks made her ears flick back against her poll, and then her head swivel to see who was coming. Just as she expected, the King of the Inlet had emerged from the woodline and was heading their direction. "Welp, there he is." She said with a deep sigh, bummed in realizing that her attempt to talk with this stranger was now likely over. She only hoped that Warsaw would be kinder to her than she'd seen with other visitors.

Tavas busied herself by watching the shallow surf lap over the rocks along the shoreline as the two adults talked. She had no interest in hearing what they had to say to one another. When she felt the stallion's lips upon her neck, she feigned a smile, like her mother had taught her to do, and nickered playfully before taking a few steps away from the pair. The sounds of a few snapping twigs in the woods away from the shoreline caught her attention, and the palomino mare thrust her head up high above her withers. Her nostrils flared for a few moments, and she peered back to Warsaw and this stranger for a second, before prancing off to investigate further.
