A couple of weeks back I was walking the dog alongside a creek on a neighbour's property and heard a crash across the creek. A fawn leapt into the water and swam across the creek, clambered up the bank and high-tailed it (particularly appropriate term for deer) across the yard. Back on the other side of the creek, mother doe was pacing along the shore, grunting softly to get the fawn to come back. I heard her stomping her feet at something, too, so I wondered if there was a coyote or bear that had been after the fawn.
(I kept a good hold on Nootka so she didn't get any ideas about chasing in either direction)
