Ylva’s heart swells when her adopted daughter moves forward to greet Solaris. A soft smile warms her face as she watches the interaction, and she feels something within her click into place. This, this is her family. No longer will she cry over those she left behind. She has everything she needs right here. How could she have ever thought about leaving?
It seems her son, however, is not so bold as his sister. Ylva watches him creep out from behind her, and reaches out to give him an encouraging nudge.
Then the tranquility of the moment is over, and Ylva swivels her ears to catch what Solaris is saying. An innocent smile brightens her face, but this fades as Solaris switches topics to her sweetheart. Ylva is confused. She has not interpreted Solaris’s confession as anything other than a gesture of platonic affection, but she does not understand the implication that the existence of Angel should do anything to change that.
Then she puts two and two together, and her face falls.
“What do you mean? Are you… leaving?” Ylva’s dark eyes are wide, and a cold sense of dread has trickled down her spine. Just a few moments ago she had thought she’d found her family, but now the image of her and Solaris happily raising their foals together is crumbling before her very eyes.
