PERSEPHONE

Persephone’s time I the Inlet had finally waned to a close. The days had seemed to melt together, indistinguishable and yet endless, the hours wheedling onwards reluctantly. She had avoided Warsaw for much of her time, his proposition still niggling uncomfortably in the back of her mind.

It disgusted Persephone to think that he thought she might even consider it. But she could hardly fight him in his own territory, so she had been left to brood and consider her options. She had already decided that something had to be done. When she got home, she would discuss it with Evren and hopefully Shamwari, too, and even anyone else she could unite to the cause.

With a final glance behind her at the empty, frosty landscape of the Inlet, Persephone let out a sigh of relief and turned back to the shoreline. Despite the chill of the water, she felt warm inside again as she headed out towards the Forest at last.
