sent from the heavens above...

It would be a lie to say he didn't notice the faint smells of others stallions on her coat every time she came back to him at night. It would also be a lie to say it didn't bother, but he always ended up talking himself out of saying anything. You're worthless, what did you expect? Of course, she's going to find a stronger stallion. She already regrets having your foal and it hasn't even hit the ground yet. She's going to leave you. He quivered at the truth in the words, not able to make himself a good argument back. She was sweet and kind to him. What more could he ask for? He didn't even know why she came to him when winter hit and the pheromones made her playful and even more flirtacious than usual. He probably shouldn't have acted on his instincts and bred her. What right did he have?

She might call him her boyfriend but it wasn't like he had anything to compare to. He'd never had a girlfriend before. He'd never had a mare who showed that much interest in him. He was just the punching bag, the freak who spoke to himself. He didn't even know why she botered to cuddle up next to him at night. Sure, it was cold here. He couldn't get over just how cold it was on this island. He shivered almost constantly. He was glad for the seasons changing and the winter melting more into spring. Maybe it wouldn't be so earth shatteringly cold anymore. He looked up from his grazing when he smelled her, eager for her presence, no matter how far and few between it was. A nicker left his lips as she drew closer, his ears pricking as she reached out to rub her muzzle on his shoulder.

His tail swished happily, like a dog wagging its tail upon seeing its owner. At her sudden question, a single ear flicked back uncertainly. She wanted to leave? He glanced around. He hadn't grown attached to this island or anything, but it seemed so sudden. Had something changed? Maybe she's just running you off with hopes of staying somewhere together but then she's never going to meet you. This is it. She's dumping you like a dying mutt. The words stung inside his head and he felt something in his chest twist but he pushed it back with a soft snort and looked at her. "I'm ready if you are. Is your father....aware of me?" He remembered how she warned him about her grandfather here so would he be less fearful for his life in the new herd? It was just a thought.
