Re(3): Combat Pay Posted on 9/13/2019 at 01:31:14 by Ed Tipshus
In 1964 - 65 service men located in Saigon were not authorized to be armed And to be armed you had to be authorized ( a combat role - I was an Advisor) . So, those in the rear with the gear did not get combat pay, but I dont think it lasted long. I have heard it was either 50 or 65 a month. but for some reason I remember $30/month. I was there early in the early 60s. i was authorized arms, also had standing orders authorization to use any air transportation whenever any place in South Vietnam. I was eventually armed with an M2 (w/selector switch -full auto) Carbine and always carried two hand grenades, and fully loaded banana clips of ammo, and misc stuff K-Bar (survival kits) water bladers) more cap but easier to tote.
