She was in no rush to have a foal of her own, though she was more curious now that she'd gotten to see them up close. They were kind of cute. She could tell the other mare was still on edge with her presence so she did her best to look neutral and non-threatening, even though it wasn't first nature for her. But as Rougaru came up, she felt herself tense for a new reason. It always felt like she had to brace for a storm when he was around, though it would be a lie to say it was an unpleasant kind of sensation. The tension grew thick in the air the moment Rougaru spoke ill of the mare's foal. Monster didn't know exactly what he meant by the comment. Maybe he didn't mean any harm in it, though it seemed her and the mother both seemed to understand it in a negative fashion.

Monster didn't know what to expect of newborn foals. Was she herself so clumsy? She had to assume so, since this was her first experience with such young horses. What if Rougaru judged her own foal so strongly? She might feel the need to take a chunk out of him if he so much as looked at her own foal in the wrong way. Or maybe she wouldn't care, though she was starting to think that wouldn't be the case. Even just watching the other foal gave her a new and strange feeling of wanting to protect it in some fashion. Even though it wasn't hers, she felt its vulnerability on a different level and it seemed natural to want to keep it safe. Would this only be heightened when she had one of her own?

Her ears pricked when the other mare spoke to Rougaru, scolding him for speaking in such a way of her colt. One ear flicked toward Rougaru, wondering how he would react to a mare talking to him in such a way. Sure, they had their own biting remarks when they were alone but maybe he wouldn't like it in front of an audience. She was curious of his temper. Would his more beastly side come out to play? She was curious to find out but also tense, worried of the foal's reaction if such a thing happened. When the mare then insulted Rougaru in turn, Monster's own ears pinned in distaste but bit her tongue. This wasn't her fight, though she'd surely called Rougaru as such in their own battles of wits. Instead, she turned her shoulder to the pair and started biting at the grass, though she kept one ear flicked on their conversation and the foal at the black mare's side.

She listened as the mare called her colt Noctis. It was an original name. She liked it. She watched father and son meet out of the corner of her eye before the colt turned to nurse on his mother. It looked strange but the draft mare didn't seem bothered in the slightest, even as the colt bumped his head and pushed into her. Maybe it wouldn't be so hard, being a mother. She'd noticed when Rougaru gave her a look that clearly said they weren't finished but she merely snorted and continued grazing, rolling the eye he could see in a brush-off manner. There. She was clearly unimpressed. As the stallion stepped closer to the mother, her own skin tingled in anticipation, hearing the clear threat in his words as he asked the mare if he looked weak. As he snaked his head at the mare's shoulder, Monster's skin shivered as if the bite were on her own flesh.

He seemed to agree with the colt's name and Monster paid attention as he reached out to his son. For a second, she could have sworn she saw something new and unfamiliar in his gaze, akin to affection or even that forbidden emotion she was sure neither of them had the correct organ for. As Rougaru's gaze swung to herself, she snorted and turned her shoulder more toward him, swishing her tail and pinning her ears at his question. Lifting her head, she tilted it innocently. "Define nice." Then with an evil gleam in her eyes, she turned her flanks toward him and continued grazing. As he turned his attention back to the black mare, she decided it was best to let them have their "family" moment. Tossing her head, she took off trotting then broke into a gallop as she got further away, wanting to wait till she was sure she wouldn't spook the colt before going faster, heading further into the island.
