Evren’s vigilance had not gone unnoticed by Persephone since she had returned from the Inlet. Her friend rarely left her side – if she were to lift her head and gaze around at any time she was almost certain to spot Evren somewhere in the distance.

The company was comforting, however – Persephone had come to rely on the thought that, should something happen, assistance was close to hand. She had trusted Evren’s capabilities before, but since leaving her in charge of the Forest and her handling it so well, she had come to think of her as her right hand. It went without saying now that Evren was essentially her second-in-command. The duties seemed to come to her naturally, and she performed them without being asked.

So it was no surprise when, upon hearing the familiar call of Shamwari, Evren offered to come with her. Persephone accepted with a simple nod, and responded promptly, leading the way in the direction of the sound. Their ally soon came into view, just a little past the border, but he was not alone. She recognised the other stallion with him from a visit some time ago – Ruger.

Visits from her closest and oldest ally were always welcome, but it was especially good to see Shamwari again so soon after her latest incident with Warsaw. Luthien needed to be united and stronger than ever in dangerous times like this.

“Gentlemen,” she greeted them as they drew nearer. “It is good to see some friendly faces visiting the Forest at last. You are a welcome change from our recent pests.”
