Re(1): Common Buckeye

On July 10, 2012 there were two Common Buckeyes at the Bracebridge Ponds - first time we had seen one. A few more were seen there later that summer. The year 2012 was notable for the large numbers of other butterflies moving north into Ontario as well as the Common Buckeyes. Rick Cavasin wrote about it: http://www.ontariobutterflies.ca/galleries/migration-2012.

Conditions were right for some dragonfly species to move north as well. On July 7, 2012 there were a few Eastern Pondhawks at the Bracebridge Ponds - the first known record for Muskoka. Several more were present by August. On August 5, 2012 I found a single Black Saddlebags at the Bracebridge Ponds, another first record for Muskoka. By September there were large numbers of them.
