He knew from the moment the sand squelched beneath his large hooves that he was going to like it here. The smells of other horses filled his dilated nostrils as he took in a heavy breath of the sweet island air. Letting out a rough snort, he pawed the ground and pranced forward into the grass. Arching his thick neck, the veins bulged across his shoulders as he dared anything to stand in his way of conquering this new place. His background had turned him into this heartless beast and now he lived in the darkness. It welcomed him like an old friend. He had been raised differently, of course, his first year full of nothing but fun and playing with the other foals of his herd. It was not long into his yearling age that there was a roundup by humans and he was captured.

With his bright colors and outgoing attitude, he was adopted quickly enough and brought to a ranch to be broke and trained. The only problem was, he wasn't trainable. He bucked off everyone who dared to ride him and when he started finding the fun in it, he added chasing down the thrown rider and attacking them into the mix. Soon, he was titled dangerous and penned away from the other horses. Frustrated by his untrusting, standoffish personality, the trainers started trying to fight back. He was beaten and branded, cut with knives, and tied up with multiple ropes. When they got tired of buying feed for him, the humans gave him table scraps and eventually dog food. He got a taste for the meaty flavor and when they tried a last desperate attempt to gentle him by turning him out with other horses, they found out their grave error.

He started attacking the other horses, taking chunks out of their hides and eating it. They immediately blocked him off again and went to fetch the gun to end him. When the man aimed the gun at him, Cain lunged and the man jumped, his aim swinging wide, which was all the motive Cain needed to charge the man, knocking him to the ground, and crashing through the wooden fence to freedom. The ringing of the gun shot was still in his ears as he high tailed it out of there. When he saw the ocean spread out before him, he jumped in without hesitation. He'd never been in the ocean before but the salt stung his wounds which was an oddly pleasant sensation. He kept swimming till he saw the island chain spread out before him and he plunged ahead. Anything had to be better than where he'd come from.

He was no longer the fun loving yearling he'd been only four years earlier. He'd spent those years being tortured and starved and he'd never bow to any beast or human again. He'd kill them all before that happened. The grass barely looked edible anymore. How long had it been since he'd been able to touch grass, let alone eat it? His pen was always dirt and weeds, nothing more. Snorting, he stomped it beneath his hooves as he stepped up on the land. Looking around, he let out a bugling cry, stomping the ground again as he waited to see who would step out of the shadows to look at the monstronsity that had just come to these islands.
