Meadow

As the sun begans to break over the horizon, her hooves find purchase upon the malleable sands that line the island. She does not come with her usual cheeriness or robust spirit, instead she is almost timid in appearance. Droplets of ocean water drip slowly from water logged locks as pale silver blue eyes survey the island that lay before her. Behind the mask of indifference, there is excitement that glimmers in her gaze. She had seen the islands from far beyond the western borders, seen the pale shapes rise above the distant surf and imagined what life might lay there. She had not known what if any life could be made here, but now, standing on these shores, she is sure. She wanders ashore now, waist high grasses licking at her slender barrel in passing as she wades through the meadow. Twin sonars flicker back and forth, listening to the variety of songbirds that serenade from the nearby treeline. Occasionally a squirrel or rabbit dashes across her ambling path, but for the most part the moment is utter peace. Dark lashes blink slowly as paper thin nostrils flare, inhaling the strange and familiar scents that drift to her. Here and there unfamiliar faces congregate in hushed companionship, sharing secrets inaudible to her prying ears. She pauses a moment, gaze drifting to a nearby couple caught in a heated debate. Curiosity clings tightly as she bows her finely shaped muzzle to rip free a mouthful of green grasses, trying to make herself seem preoccupied with grazing when indeed her attention remained on the duo..
