This herd was moe then a herd to her they were family. She would protect them with her life. Sure letting this homeless stallion camp out could be dangerous but she was willing to give him a chance. He didn't seem all that threatening after all so perhaps he wasn't that bad. To a lot of stallions seeing a mare doing all the work was strange. Mares did take up a lead position but that usuaully was just t lead the herd to water and food sources, but Shaydowfax takes up the stallions job too not afraid of a little fighting.
