the strange way of the world

It was hard to let Tavas be free, but he had to. He could see the joy on the palomino's face as she said goodbye and she trotted off to explore. He was always left alone again, but not forever. Tavas always came back and as far as he knew, she never left the Bay. He was happy to give her space and do what she liked, but some of it came at his own expense. He would just have to get over it and accept these are the kind of things it took to have a mate. Compromise.

Tavas was off again today like usual so Requiem was left bored. He had his fill of grass (maybe too much) and he took a trip to the stream for a drink. Now, there was nothing left to do, but the tasks of a lead he should have been doing already. He tries to avoid the boring work of walking the border and the beach, but there was nothing left to do so why not. He checks the far end first where he was sure no intruders would come from because Warsaw was on the other side. With that deemed clear, he takes the long journey towards the beach.

He walks the length of the Bay until he finally reaches the sea. Requiem looks out over the ocean, closes his eyes, and lets the strong winds roll over his body. His hair tosses around his skull wildly, but he does not move until the scent of Tavas and a stranger reaches his nose. Brown eyes shoot open and his head jerks towards the smell where he spots two horses far down the beach. He knows one is Tavas, but the other mare he does not know. Worried something bad could happen, he begins quick strides towards them.

"Tavas?" He calls her name as he gets close and stops beside the palomino mare. He glances over her, but so no marks unlike the mare in front of them. The liver chestnut didn't look well. His eyes instantly go to the wound on her face and what looks to be a rip in her ear. Even though this mare seems to be hurt, he felt on edge around her. "Who is this?" He asks, eyes now glued to the new mare. His body tenses next to Tavas and he leans towards her, lightly touching her body.
