Ernesto was somewhat surprised to hear Cherish’s first words. If he had been going to report back to Cullen, he would have done it by now. He also hadn’t realised that she feared Cullen so much. There was much about Cherish that Ernesto had yet to know, it seemed. He had to remember that. He met her pleading gaze and gave a small nod in response, his expression more solemn and serious than usual. “I don’t tattle,” he replied simply, although he left the tease out of his voice in order to better convey his honesty. Her fear then seemed to dissolve into concern. She missed her children. Despite her troubles, Cherish seemed like a good mother. Ernesto did not blame her for her confusion or the things that had happened. “They are well,” he confirmed with a nod of his head. “Cullen causes trouble all over the place, as always, but he runs the Lagoon about as well as can be expected. Augustine is growing up so fast – it seems like only yesterday he was a little colt up to my knees, now he is a man. I am teaching him my native tongue.” He paused a moment, allowing her to take in the information. “But what about you, mi querido? How have you been since you left?
