As expected, it did not take long for Merete to be approached. She cast her amber eyes over the short, gold and white stallion. Judging by his arrogant first question, she assumed that this was the Cullen that had summoned her here before he confirmed as much with his words. She studied him, her expression impassive, as she listened to him speak.

“I wish,” she replied stiffly. To have wandered in somewhere else unexpectedly would almost certainly have been an improvement on the whole situation.

At Cullen’s comment about female companionship, Merete rolled her eyes. She had seen some things, and interacted with some unsavoury characters in her lifetime – it would take more than such veiled threats to frighten her.

“I’m sure they have, I can’t imagine you get many lady visitors in this cess pit,” she retorted. “Did you want something with me in particular, Cullen? Or were you just bored?”
