the bones of hellhounds tremble



the mainland. a place she had no interests in returning to.

she had stood on its shore and had gazed across the glistening sea. she was pulled from grief and anger and wants of revenge. amunet took to the shadows of the rolling tides and found herself in search of ghosts. instead, she found paradise. heaven-cast, a self-made purgatory she had begun to relish. at the very least, she was comforting in knowing she would not be the only soul traversing across this eden she had found.

one last thought would be lent to the mainland, one last pained memory. she shuttered it away as her company moved to asking her for a name. fighting the urge to draw against his patience, a simply reply was placed. though her tongue ached to give him thorns, instead and with care, she would entertain the idleness of their conversation. it was a joy she never understood, nor had the opportunity to take in. home had been a place she was spoken over, and ignored. shunned, and left at the fringes of comfort and company. a hastened end, staved by a sister's love.

" i am amunet. " her tongue fell still, nearly tripping along the syllables pulled forward. it seemed strange to her, to finally have a name and another voice to speak it. amduat, where are you?

her eyes wandered from the desert-flame, pulled into the stillness of an autumn eve. her heart's pace quickened, and her mouth felt dry as something much like anxiety began to prick at her flesh. he spoke of his mother, but she had to know. " the islands looked larger from afar -- are there many here? "
