TAREK

Tarek's recent exchange with Indira had been brief. He didn't know she was bringing company, so he is surprised to see a young mare emerge from the shadows behind Indira. In his current state of mind, Tarek eyes her warily. He's not in a place where he feels he can put his faith in anyone new. Their wary expressions mirror each other. This alone should be enough for them to realize their relation, but Indira speaks up to eliminate any potential confusion.

"Tarek, Evren, this is Kalayani, my daughter." She starts. "So your sister, and your niece." She gestures to Tarek and Evren in turn, explaining their relations out loud.

Tarek blinks a few times, unsure of how to respond. He never knew he had a sister, and the concept feels foreign to him. He shakes the surprise from his head and looks back to Evren. He doesn't have the time to worry about this now. He opens his mouth to ask more questions of Evren, but is almost immediately interrupted by the appearance of Yngvar.

Tarek breathes a sigh of relief, seeing him safe at home, but a parental anger rises within him. Where has Yngvar been all this time? He could have been hurt, or worse. Tarek will give him a proper lecture later, but for now, it is important he know what's going on. "Your mother and Black Out are with Warsaw. Evren was just telling me about how she and Shamwari plan to get them back." Tarek's face softens as he offers words of encouragement he barely believes himself. "We'll get them back, son. If we all work together, they'll be home safe soon."

Tarek contemplates what Evren said. Staying behind is important, and Tarek isn't upset to play that role in the mission to come, but until now, he wasn't even aware anyone was going to visit Warsaw. This is why he dragged Indira into this mess. Everyone else seemed busy, and he assumed with unrelated matters. No one clued him in. Anger rises once again, like bile in his throat. Thus far, he has been uninvolved with the politics of the islands, content to dote over Hannah and their children in peace, but this incident changed everything. He has a personal reason to be involved now. Suddenly he's furious about being left out. He knows none of this is Evren's fault, but negative feelings rise unbidden anyway.

He gets her jab, and answers with a sharp retort. "Maybe if someone had told me what you were planning, I wouldn't have felt the need." The tension had never left Tarek's stance, but for a while he was still. Now, he shifts his weight, from one hind leg to the other. His ears turn back and his nostrils wrinkle with disdain.

Indira feels a fight brewing and attempts to sooth her son's rising temper. "Tarek, calm down. Getting worked up now isn't going to help anyone. We need you focused." She turns her snout touch to Kalayani's shoulder in a brief, reassuring gesture. To reassure herself or Kalayani, she's not sure. "Evren, it's okay. He was worried. I'm glad to help. I can stay behind with Tarek and Persephone to guard the Forest."

Indira's honeyed eyes drifts to the colt, Yngvar. So this is the eldest grandson Tarek spoke of? He is a handsome fellow. Indira's heart swells with pride. It's a strange yet glorious feeling, knowing she's a grandmother now. "It's actually really good to be back. I'm glad to meet you, Yngvar." Her gaze returns to the familiar lines of Evren's face. "And it's so good to see you again Evren." Her smile broadens. She didn't know how much she missed her sister until now.
