Re(2): Where are the feeder birds?

Not many birds were visiting our feeder until the recent plunge in temperatures. This is a good year for many tree seed/cone crops so the birds probably haven't felt the need to supplement their diet. Here's a link to Ron Pittaway's annual Winter Finch Forecast: http://www.jeaniron.ca/2019/wff19.htm

We walked the Chickadee Trail today between Henry Marsh and the Bracebridge Ponds. There were no birds until we got to the east half of the trail. Around 12:30 p.m. several chickadees, red-breasted and white-breasted nuthatches, and blue jays were moving through the woods and across the trail. There were also about 15 juncos feeding under the hemlocks by the old beaver dam. I think finding the birds along the trail is just in the timing, which changes with the weather conditions. Today was cold, but sunny and only light wind, so the birds were more active. Since some bears may still be up, we didn't put seed in the empty birdfeeders. The Christmas holiday period and winter weekends are usually a good time to see birds along the trail since there are many people bringing sunflower seed and peanuts to handfeed the chickadees...so the birds tend to hang around the trail then.
