I believe these pundits overstate the case and are far left of center in their analysis. This article makes much of the Repiblicans not being willing to accept the outcome of elections when we are are in the trird year of the Democrats rejecting the 2016 outcome and actively pursuing impeachment on a veryflimsy ground. Also we have been through more difficult divisiveness in the past. Even after the drastic event of the Civil War the south rejected the outcome for almost 100 years even inventing terror methods to hold political office. We have been through much tougher times.
