Live through this lie

Was I left behind?
Tell me, tell me I survived.

I say everything I have come here to say. Everything I thought I'd explained to Persephone and to Evren, while in the company of Ruger during our last meeting in the Forest. There was a calculated reason why I'd sent my son away. I sent him into enemy territory to improve relations, and to buy both my herd and Persephone's some safety, albeit it be temporary. It wasn't a decision I made easily. The last thing I wanted to do was put my family in jeopardy. Both my sister and my son, were now in the hands of my enemies. I believe we needed to forge partnerships, even with our foes, to patchwork some semblance of peace back together.

But the energy shifts when Warsaw arrives.

Perhaps this was Evren's plan all along, but as the words spit like venom from her lips, I couldn't hide the scowl on my face. It wasn't reserved for Warsaw. Well, not in the beginning, at least. It was for the Forest mare.

The intention was to be an allied front. We were meant to back each other, and to approach peacefully. Evren could barely hold it together through our introductions, before she completely decimated any chance of convincing Warsaw to bargain with us. My red tail flicks angrily over my haunches as she continues to speak. Her language, her tone, is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I just grit my teeth, with my ears buried under my mane at my poll, and wait until it was over. Evren show's her age and inexperience here, and at great expense to all of us. She is putting all our families at risk. And for what, one mare? One mare after such a long timeline of battle and abuse?

I stomp my forehoof and shift my weight back and forth as Warsaw's demeanor changes. The glint in his eye turns mean, the way I'd seen it only in battle before. Any hope I had of seeing my sister is gone now, I know. Thanks to Evren. I snort viciously at her, even barring my teeth for a moment, and I don't care if Warsaw sees it.

The grey stallion has his say. He continues to escalate the situation, and even throws out the term 'war'. This is predictable of course. Instead of containing the fire, all we've done is continue fanning the flames. I narrow my sights at Warsaw now, with a new perspective. Evren's behavior has showed me that despite our alliance, when it comes down to it, it's every man for himself. My priority is to protect my family, and no one else. "So be it." I finally say, staring down my nose at the grey stallion. "When I return Warsaw, I'll be taking Vita Nova with me. Mark my words."
