 Tell me, tell me I survived. Something about Liland's answer didn't sit well in my gut. He told me he was dedicated, that I could count on him, however I wasn't sure if I believed him. But I was more interested in what he had to say next, after hearing that Larka now lived in the Prairie with me. Liland's interest in keeping total control over his children seemed bizarre to me. "I understand you've lost a lot." I say, as a way to try to find common ground. "And I find your commitment to return the the Bay quite admirable." I add with a bob of my head. I am speaking bluntly but truthfully - after Warsaw chased him off Tinuvel, Liland did do everything in his power to return. That took guts. "But you and I have been afforded many freedoms in life, due to our status as herd leaders and as stallions." I remind him. "Most mares don't have what we have. It's important for foals to be with their mothers. And vice versa. I couldn't imagine ripping one away from their mother so selfishly." I say, my eyes narrowing on the fjord stallion now. "It won't be good for your son, that's for sure. And for that reason, I don't think your heart is in the right place, Liland." I snort once, and allow my gaze to shift to our surroundings. It was time for me to leave, if I hoped to get back to Luthien before the sun set. "I will pass along your offer for visits to Larka, but I don't except them to sit well with her." I say, turning on my haunches now to signal my departure. "It's cruel, Liland, what you're doing to her. Keeping her from her son. You should think hard on that." |
