 Tell me, tell me I survived. I could tell from the look on her face that nothing good was going to come from this conversation. But I couldn't stop the words from piling up inside my mouth, pressing against the back of my teeth and bulging at my sharply held lips, as the insults came flying from hers. My expression only soured, my brown eyes reeling into tight slits and my ears falling back against my poll. For a second this felt like deja vu. Was Evren really just as stubborn and naive as she was those years ago back in the Desert? "You're a fucking child." I shot back, with a violent flick of my red tail over my rump. "An ignorant, spoiled brat." I feel the heat radiating off my face and chest as she tried to tell me how I'd put my family in danger. My tail continued to whip back and forth across my haunches and I snorted, once, twice, three times, at her words. "Vita Nova came to me, when she was in trouble with Warsaw. I beat him down. Then she ran back to him anyway. I cannot control her." I explain. "The only reason Cullen isn't stealing and raping the rest of your mares alongside Warsaw these past two seasons is because of me and my son. That's the only reason." I spit back. I hate this tit-for-tat bullshit, but I needed this. I needed her to hear my track record, to see what I've actually done to help her family, and not just mine. "Warsaw will never respect you. He just won't. And you walked in there and gave him exactly what he wanted. Your childish, brash, irresponsible tantrum just added fuel to the fire." I say, baring my teeth at her. I snort once more and start to walk away, my chipped hooves leading toward the trail that lead home to the Prairie. "Don't piss off the only friend you have left in this fight." "From now on, I'll speak only to the adults in the room." I say, my back turned to her now. "As for Vita Nova, I'll find a way to get to her myself." |
